Iowa Senate Democrats Urge Opposition to Social Security Cuts

Today, the Iowa State Senate Democratic Caucus distributed a letter to the members of Iowa’s federal delegation urging opposition to any cuts to Social Security funding or operations. Sen. Democratic Whip Bill Dotzler (D-Waterloo) has released the following statement regarding the letter.

“Social Security is a promise of security for the aging and the vulnerable,” Sen. Dotzler said. “Failing to deliver on that promise would have devastating effects for the more than 687,000 Iowans who rely on Social Security’s monthly benefits.”

“Our leaders in Washington need to defend Social Security and push back against reckless proposals that endanger Iowans’ earned benefits,” Sen. Dotzler said. “We are urging our members of Congress to stand up for their constituents.”

The letter, addressed to Sens. Grassley and Ernst, and Reps. Feenstra, Nunn, Miller-Meeks, and Hinson, and signed by the entire Iowa State Senate Democratic Caucus, is attached to this release.
