Catelin Drey Sworn in to the Iowa Senate

Des Moines – Catelin Drey was officially sworn in as an Iowa state senator in a ceremony this morning at the Iowa State Capitol. Senator Drey was accompanied by her family and Senate Democratic Leader Janice Weiner as she took the oath of office. Senators Weiner and Drey have released the following statement.

“I’m grateful for the trust voters in Senate District 1 have placed in me and I couldn’t be prouder to represent them in the Iowa Senate,” Sen. Drey (D-Sioux City) said. “I ran because I don’t think that politicians in Des Moines are working to better the lives of children and families. I am ready to get to work fully funding public education and tackling the affordability crisis plaguing our housing, healthcare, and childcare.”

“Senator Drey will be a fierce advocate for Iowa families and an outstanding addition to the team,” Sen. Weiner (D-Iowa City) said. “Her victory is a clear indication that Iowans are sick and tired of single party rule – they want senators who actually listen to them. Breaking the supermajority in the Iowa Senate is the first step on the road to creating a better deal for all Iowans, and I’m thrilled to have Senator Drey on board.”

Senator Drey represents Senate District 1, which is in Woodbury County and includes Lawton and most of Sioux City.
