House and Senate Legislative Democrats are calling on Case New Holland (CNH) Industrial to reconsider its decision to close the Burlington assembly plant with the following statements:
“For nearly a century, Case New Holland has been a cornerstone of Burlington’s identity and economy,” House Democratic Leader Brian Meyer of Des Moines said. “Generations of families have built their lives on good, reliable jobs at Case, and generations of Iowa workers have helped CNH grow into the industry leader it is today.”
“This decision would devastate hundreds of Iowa families and ripple through the entire southeast Iowa economy,” Sen. Tom Townsend of Dubuque continued. “Shutting down the Burlington plant isn’t just about dollars and cents, it’s about the people, the pride, and the legacy built over nearly a century. For a community that has powered CNH’s success for generations, this would be a profound loss.”
“Iowa has invested millions in CNH. It’s the backbone of Burlington – an integral part of that community. CNH posted record profits in 2024 and announced a $5 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing – it would take just a fraction of that to keep Burlington’s assembly lines running,” Senate Democratic Leader Janice Weiner of Iowa City said.
“We are urging CNH leadership to reconsider the closure and work with local and state officials to preserve the good-paying jobs and manufacturing legacy that have defined Burlington for generations,” State Rep. Dan Gosa of Davenport added.
