Iowa Senate Democratic Leader Janice Weiner has issued the following statement regarding school funding and the end of the legislative session.
“How long must Iowa’s public schools wait for Republican lawmakers to get their house in order?” Sen. Weiner (D-Iowa City) asked. “While the majority party bickers publicly, school funding has yet to be signed, despite the Legislature having passed it nearly a month ago.”
“Gov. Reynolds had no issue rushing to approve legislation that allows out-of-state special interests to lead Iowa charter schools, but when it comes to funding for Iowa’s public schools or increasing pay for critical school employees, she’s using budget negotiations to hold paraeducator pay increases hostage,” Sen. Weiner said.
“The majority party is playing games with the budgetary clarity that our schools need,” Sen. Weiner said. “Enough is enough. Fund our schools, pay our educators, and end this legislative session without further delay.”
