Meet Jackie Smith
Senator Jackie Smith was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Briar Cliff University and a master’s degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She retired from Northwest AEA after 34 years as a speech-language pathologist. As chairwoman of the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors, Smith worked with business leaders to bring one of Iowa’s largest economic development projects to Woodbury County. Since joining the legislature in 2019, Senator Jackie Smith has worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass important bipartisan legislation, including increasing funding for job training at community colleges, enhancing protections and justice for crime victims, creating a children’s mental health system, and expanding grants for veterans injured in the line of duty. She serves on the Education, Transportation, and Natural Resources and Energy committees and as Ranking Member of the Local Government committee.
